New Positions!

The success of the SSMHA depends on our volunteers - from parents stepping up to help with fundraising, to our dedicated coaches and team managers.

 

The SSMHA board is asking for expressions of interest for the 3 volunteer positions to help enhance the services offered to our association.

 

1) Development Coordinator (New)

2) Communicatons Coordinator (New)

3) Equipment Manager 

 

SSMHA would like to thank Jeff Brosha for doing a amazing job with the role of equipment manager over the last few years. 

 

These are key roles for the upcoming seasons, and we ask interested candidates who have the time and the experience to fill these roles to submit an expression of interest to David Nurse, Corporate Secretary, at ssmhacs@gmail.com by August 6, 2023. PLAYER DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

 

The Player Development Coordinator is responsible for leading the development and operation of both on-ice and off-ice developmental activities for all players of the South Shore Minor Hockey Association (SSMHA). Works closely with members of the Board to determine objectives and

needs for player development, proposes resources and programs to fulfill those needs.

 

Duties -

    • Assists in the development of the tryout and player evaluation processes.
    • Recommend and assist in the redesign of the try-out and evaluation process where required.
    • Participates in coach selection for all levels.
    • Assist with the selection of try-out evaluators.
    • Research, design, update and recommend training development program(s).
    • Conduct in-season coaches meeting to discuss player development issues.
    • Work with all coaches on player or level specific development issues.
    • Work with Board on player move-up requests.
    • Contact parents regarding player move-up requests.

 

Special Requirements -

    • Ability to dedicate adequate time to duties and attendance at board meetings
    • Extensive knowledge of hockey development is essential for success in this position.

 

COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

 

The Communications Coordinator is a highly motivated member of the SSMHA team. The Coordinator is directly responsible for all digital communications, including posting to social media, graphic design work, and distributing press releases. The Coordinator works under the direction of the Board, and must form exceptional working relationships with all members of the organization.

 

Duties-

    • Supporting the planning and execution of various communications plans (season-long, events, special projects)'
    • Posting stories, updates, event announcements, graphics on SSMHA social media accounts in accordance with SSMHA social media policy
    • Recommending updates/amendments to SSMHA social media policy, as appropriate
    • Updating pages on the SSMHA website and other general website upkeep
    • Attending SSMHA board meetings and, where appropriate, subcommittee and team meetings (online and in-person) and contributing to the planning and execution of SSMHA events
    • Building relationships with league stakeholders (teams, sponsors, media, etc.)

 

Special Requirements –

    • Ability to dedicate adequate time to duties and attendance at board meetings on request
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Understanding the SSMHA social media policy, and the importance of appropriate social media use.

 

EQUIPMENT MANAGER

 

The Equipment Manager’s primary responsibilities are to maintain an inventory of all SSMHA equipment, safely store all equipment, distribute equipment to SSMHA teams and coaches as required, and accept returned equipment at the end of the season. The Equipment Manager must communicate effectively with SSMHA board, coaches, and parents as required.

 

Duties –

    • Inventory and organize all association jerseys by team/ by size/by home/away. Hand out
    • at beginning of year; store at the end of year. Ensure they are washed and maintained.
    • Make recommendations to the board on equipment needs, purchasing equipment
    • replacements, and overall planning around equipment
    • Inventory and maintain association goalie equipment:
    • Inventory and maintain association coaching equipment, such as pylons, pucks,
    • coaching/whiteboards, other training tools,
    • Inventory and organize association socks.
    • Maintain a detailed, written inventory of all SSMHA equipment.
    • Hold the keys of any storage rooms/spaces allocated to SSMHA.

 

Special requirements –

    • Very strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
